I think about horses a lot…. Like A LOT A LOT.

Often associated the American west, horses (in their current form)originally came from the old world were introduced by colonizers and eventually spread throughout the North American continent. They now (in some cases) roam free through various biomes of North America, and while beautiful and powerful are also basically feral.

I’ve always found it a bit funny that these animals are associated with POWER, when they are incredibly sensitive and will just COLIC or DIE for seemingly inane reasons. Most of these “wild” horses descend from captive breeds that in some ways relied on people for survival. This perception vs. reality has always been fascinated me (i was an avid Breyer collector what can I say), and symbol of horses in the American mythos has always felt a little ironic.

This is part of a body of work called “Inheritance” that toys with the idea of who inherits the world when everything falls apart.

SIDENOTE: I’m spending a considerably less amount of time on this app. at this point I use it just to post pics, and to communicate with friends, it’s become incredibly hard to increase an audience when I have little will or desire to do the influencing and content creating thing. I simply don’t have the energy.

TLDR: Horse are weird. This app is dumb.

I wanted to come in and thank everyone who came to the show on Saturday. It meant so much to have so much support, and special shout out to my partner @foreverknight77 for taking pictures. I ALWAYS forget because I get too distracted talking to people. And another big thank you to @kingbeeme for this opportunity! It was a magical experience and I hope to be out here again in the near future!!! I got to work with a scientist and learn SO MUCH about these fascinating little reptiles that are part of the Sonoran ecosystem. And shout out to @theghostcaptain for doing ALL OF THE TEXT because I genuinely felt like my had was gonna fall off after this and couldn’t have managed writing WORDS. #reel #art #animal #arizona #micron #drawing #nature #biology #fineart #artist
